Candace Walsh

After completing a degree in Finance & Accounting from Syracuse University, Candace embarked upon a career in Finance, as an asset-backed trader.  Although successful, Candace found herself to be unfulfilled and decided to leave the world of finance to begin her journey with food.  She attended the French Culinary Institute in NYC and earned a degree in culinary arts.

After working in restaurants, catering and as a private chef, she realized she had a thirst for further knowledge regarding the food we eat.  She attended New York University and received a Masters of Arts in Food Studies with a focus on child nutritional development through cooking and food knowledge.  Upon completion of this program she could marry her finance and business skills with her culinary arts knowledge by becoming a restaurant consultant in one of the most exciting food cities in the world, NYC, where she was involved in creating new ventures, managing existing and tweaking old ones.

In 2002, she moved from NYC to London to be with her husband and start a family.  During this time, she created another successful business, non-food related, and continued teaching cooking to children.  She returned to the USA via Miami in 2010, where she has settled with her family.

For her next venture, Candace teamed up with one of America’s most innovative chefs, she is certain that this must be a project that organically brings together community, cooking, education, nutrition and most of all fun.  Together Norman and Candace’s passion for good tasting food and the desire to educate those around them to not only enjoy good food but to be able to incorporate it into their own lives by preparing it themselves, is what will drive their CULINARY EDUCATION SPACE, In the Kitchen with Norman van Aken, to live a world apart from other cooking schools.

Chef Norman has always been a mentor on many levels to me over the years. This culinary school is the beginning of something great and he will be again instrumental to molding today's culinary youth.
